The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

As any prominent awards ceremony nears, there’s always a clamor for the addition fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are tabletop games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. Yet it remains an essential concession for the industry of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories actually cover many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. What category would fit them within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games stand as most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for many years.

The famous puzzle experience rivals well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers are working at the hard edge of video game design, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
