From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and sinister influences increasing in power within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table includes Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, invading the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer knows the region and cautions that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.
